Rural boutique guesthouse · O Ribeiro
The project
Two stone houses, a garden in between and the wish to care for what is ours. This is how Bicotorto came to be, in A Laixa (A Arnoia), in the heart of O Ribeiro.
Bicotorto did not begin as a business, but as an act of love. The love of looking at two traditional buildings in the hamlet of A Laixa, in A Arnoia (Ourense), and not wanting them to quietly fall into ruin like so many others. Behind it there is a local developer, TRENDONME SL, made up of two equal partners, with roots and address right here, in A Arnoia. People of this land who chose to bet on their village instead of going far away to seek their fortune.
From that decision was born a rural tourism boutique guesthouse: two stone houses lovingly restored and joined by a garden in between, in the heart of O Ribeiro, where the Miño meets the Arnoia. This is not just another hotel, but a small refuge with soul, designed so that whoever arrives feels they are coming home, even if it is their first time setting foot in the region.
Every old house holds a story, and these two held the story of a village that deserves to stay alive. Bicotorto was born from the wish to bring value to the heritage and the landscape of A Arnoia, to give a second life to what was already here before us. In a rural region that sees its own people leave, we wanted to do exactly the opposite: to stay, to care, and to create something that invites others to discover O Ribeiro at a gentle pace.
It is a small and honest project, supported in part by the Tourism grant lines of the Xunta, which also creates employment in the countryside: a person from the area, a woman living in A Arnoia, is part of the daily life of the house. It may seem like little. In a village, it is anything but.
Restoring is not tearing down and starting from scratch. It is listening to what the house already knows how to do. We have worked with a careful and sustainable restoration, preserving the stone, the volumes and the character of the traditional architecture, and adding only what brings real comfort. The result is what we call true rural luxury: a one-star rating and the feeling of being somewhere unique.
The two buildings are arranged around a garden in between that joins them and lets them breathe, with a large swimming pool for the long summer days. From this come the house’s three accommodations with soul —A de Generosa, O Loft and A Casa Grande—, each with its own personality, yet united by the same warmth of a beautifully restored Galician home.
Our commitment to the environment is not a brochure ornament: it is the very reason the project exists. We believe in a life in harmony and respect with nature, and that is why every decision —the materials, the consumption, the way we operate— looks first after the landscape around us. We want Bicotorto to be an authentic introduction to nature without sacrificing the very thing we have come to show.
That commitment extends to the village. We are committed to local produce, to what is nearby and in season, and to sustaining the local economy in a region shaped by the wine of the D.O. Ribeiro and by trails such as the Camiño Miñoto-Ribeiro. To care for A Arnoia is to care for who we are.
Imagine arriving at dusk, leaving the car behind and having the noise of the world switch off all at once. The scent of the earth, the murmur of the water, the stone still warm from the sun. That is what we want to offer: an ecological and different lodging experience in the O Ribeiro region, with excellent quality and never giving up on calm.
Bicotorto aspires to a sense of exclusivity that lies not in ostentatious luxury, but in the detail, in the tranquility and in the care of someone who welcomes you as if into their own home. You are close to Ribadavia, to the wine, to the local festivals such as the Festa do Pemento da Arnoia, and at the same time far from everything that wears you out. That balance is, for us, the finest of luxuries.
From Bicotorto, we want your stay to taste of earth, of stone and of home. So that when you leave you take with you something of the calm of A Arnoia and the wish to return.
We look forward to welcoming you in A Laixa, in the heart of O Ribeiro, where the Miño and the Arnoia join hands.
