There is one aroma that defines summer in A Arnoia: that of peppers roasting over the embers. The pemento da Arnoia is the product that has made this village famous, and it has a festival all of its own.
A pepper with a name of its own
The pemento da Arnoia is a green pepper, slender and mild in flavour, grown in the fertile floodplains beside the Miño and the Arnoia. It has become a gastronomic hallmark of the region, gracing the finest tables in Galicia.
The festival
The Festa do Pemento da Arnoia, declared of Interese Turístico de Galicia, takes place around the first weekend of August. During those days the village fills with stalls, tastings and music, and the star of the show is always the same: the pepper, roasted and dressed with oil and coarse salt.
On the table all year round
There is no need to wait for the festival: at the Tenda de Manola and in the village restaurants, the pepper and the other productos da terra are on offer throughout the season.
